Lilly Reyes
Underneath the cold silence, this life is more beautiful than one thousand suns
My name is Lilly Reyes, and I am an abstract painter based in New York City. With a background that includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame, a year in the Art Institute of Chicago’s baccalaureate program, and an MFA from Parsons, The New School, I am dedicated to uncovering personal and universal truths through abstraction.
My work explores the subconscious mind, the fluid nature of memory, existentialism, and the evolving sense of self and identity – frequently visualizing ethereal or otherworldly environments and reflecting themes of shifting identities and the elusive passage of time.

Remember to forget, learning to unlearn
My painting process is a journey of honesty. I often approach my canvases as puzzles, assembling compositions without a predetermined final form, allowing the work to evolve naturally. The process can be confrontational, like looking into a mirror and observing how my soul resonates with the colors I choose and how layers weave together over time.
Just as life is a process of piecing things together, sometimes imperfectly, I embrace the transformation and in turn the paintings gain their own identity and can stand the test of time.
